The National Museum of Ireland has revealed highlights of its programme of activities for 2019.
Among the events confirmed are 5 temporary exhibitions this year and one of those is due to be based in the National Museum of Country Life, Turlough, Castlebar.
Kitchen Power: Women’s experiences of rural electrification will run from July 2019 to May 2020.
The exhibition will look at the impact of rural electrification and in particular the effect of it on women in Irish homes in the 1950s and 1960s, in terms of changing the physical environment of the home, as domestic electrical products were introduced and used in rural areas.
The Principal Investigator for the project is Dr Sorcha O’Brien of Kingston School of Art, who will curate the exhibition in partnership with Noel Campbell of the National Museum of Country Life.
