The eyes of the world will be on Knock Shrine for the best part of two hours on Sunday next, when Pope Francis visits the Marian Shrine, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to put the location on the international stage. That’s according to the Chief Executive of Mayo county council Peter Hynes.
Council staff havebeen working with Fr Richard Gibbons and staff at Knock Shrine in the last number of months preparing for the occasion, even before the visit was officially announced.
Mr Hynes told Midwest News today about the unique opportunity the Papal visit to Knock presents for the county.
More than a thousand dinners will be served on Sunday at the only hotel in Knock village, Knock House Hotel.
Hotel Manager Brian Crowley, says it’s a very exciting time for everyone in Knock – businesses and the local community.
