After a century of a post office in the village of Ballindine, the facility is to be withdrawn from today, as the local postmistress retires.

There is considerable controversy about the closure of the post office in the busy village, located on the N17.

After today the 150 pensioners who collect their pension in Ballindine, will have to travel to either Claremorris or Miltown.

Local people are upset by the closure and local businesses claim that An Post has not really engaged with businesses in Ballindine to secure a new location in the town for the post office.
