Irishmen and women who died in past wars or on UN service are being remembered today at ceremonies across the country.
The National Day of Commemoration is being marked at six locations across Ireland, including Galway and Sligo.
In Galway the commemoration ceremony starts at 11am at the Quadrangle at NUIG and in Sligo the event gets underway at 1.30pm at Sligo City Hall.
In Dublin President Michael D Higgins and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar are among those attending at the National Museum of Ireland in Collins Barracks.
Family members and a wide cross-section of the community, as well as relatives of the 1916 Leaders, have also been invited.
