Sligo County Council is to purchase spray paint stencils to help curb the issue of dog fouling in the county.
Leas Cathaoirleach of the council Cllr Keith Henry called on the local authority to tackle the problem by using different methods.
He said the signs that have been erected are not enough of a deterrent and suggested that spray paint stencils be used, similar to other local authorities in the UK.
The stencils are used to spray paint onto the footpath, in areas where dog fouling is an issue and Cllr Henry says it may help to get the message across to those who do not comply with the law.
The council confirmed on foot of Cllr Henry’s request that they would purchase the stencils.
