Iarnrod Eireann has apologised to the passengers at Ballyhaunis station this morning at 6am who could not access the platform and had to revert to jumping over a wall to catch the 6.03am train to Dublin.
A spokesperson for the company said there was “a rostering problem” at Ballyhaunis this morning.
The spokesperson said there actually was access from a carpark onto platform 2, but accepts that this is not a well known entrance onto the platform.
She apologised to the customers affected.
The station was opened at 7am this morning.
One of the passengers at the station this morning was Mary Regan. She told Midwest News today that when she arrived at the train station at 5.45am this morning, heading to Dublin airport, she found the gates locked. She said they were still locked at 6.01 when the train pulled into the station and the intending passengers were unable to access the platform in the usual way.
Instead they were forced to climb over a high wall and assist each other in getting down the other side and boarding the train.
