An Independent Senator, who's seeking re-election to the Seanad says the Upper House should not be abolished - but should be reformed instead.
Galway Senator Ronan Mullen is seeking re-election to the Seanad - the deadline for nominations for the University Constituency is at noon today.
During the election, Fine Gael stated in their manifesto that it would abolish the Seanad, if in power.
However, Senator Mullen says it should remain in place - but the number of Senators should be reduced, the expenses system should be changed and the people should be allowed elected all senators.
He says he doesn't think scrapping the Seanad would save the taxpayer that much money.
