The Reserve Defence Force post in Ballina is to close, as part of a reform of the force.
The Defence Minister Alan Shatter has accepted the recommendations of a Value for Money Review of the Reserve Defence Force, which will see the force being downsized and given a reduced geographical spread, rather than being abolished.
Under the new compromise plan, the Reserve Defence Force post in Castlebar is being retained, but the Ballina post is to be closed.
Ballina-based Fianna Fail deputy Dara Calleary says this is regrettable….
