Achill Island lifeboat assists yacht damaged by dolphin
- Details
The Achill Island lifeboat was launched yesterday evening at about 4.30 to assist a yacht, which was unable to steer due to a damaged rudder.
The yacht, with two crewmen on board, was about 4 miles south west of Achill Head when the alarm was raised.
The crew said the yacht had been surrounded by dolphins at the time, and it appeared one of them had struck the rudder and damaged it.
The Achill Island lifeboat and volunteer crew took the yacht under tow, and arrived back at Cloughmore Pier at about 9.45 last night.
No one was injured in the incident.
