Mayo Reform Movement Delighted with the Size of the No Vote in Yesterday's Children Referendum

Yesterday’s result in the Children Referendum may yet be challenged in light of Thursday’s supreme court ruling that said the government had wrongly used public money to promote a yes vote in its Information campaign during the lead up to last Saturday’s vote. That’s the view of Martin Daly of the Mayo Reform Movement who campaigned for the Referendum to be rejected.

He says a challenge to the result would in no way be carping by the no campaigners who secured a surprisingly high no vote in the referendum.

The children’s rights amendment to the Constitution was passed with 57.4 per cent of people voting Yes and 42.6 per cent voting No.

In Mayo 53 percent of the electorate voted Yes and 47 percent voted against it.

The Sligo North Leitrim electorate voted 56 percent Yes with a No vote of 44 percent.

Roscommon South Leitrim returned 53 percent Yes and 47 percent rejection.

While Galway West had a stronger 62 percent Yes and 38 percent No, and 59 percent of Galway East voter said Yes and 41 percent said No
