Sligo set for week of Science Fair events
- Details
The stage is set for the annual Sligo Science Fair, which gets underway tomorrow at the Institute of Technology.
The event attracts up to 5,000 people every year and involves free nightly public lecture until next Friday, November 16th.
One of the highlights of the Science Fair is set to be a lecture on the Northern Lights which will be given on Monday night next by astronomer David Gradwell.
Mr Gradwell, who has an observatory in Birr, County Offaly, has been watching the skies for 20 years. He has developed a system which helps him to predict when displays of the Northern Light or Aurora Borealis will occur.
His lecture will explain the system and explain why the chances of seeing the Northern Lights are particularly good in Sligo and Donegal.
Other Science Week lectures include An Evening of Science, Poetry and Music and the Lives of Sligo Scientists, which will take place on Tuesday evening at 7.30 in the Clarion Hotel.
Details of all Sligo Science Fair events are available on www.itsligo.ie/scienceweek.
