Castlebar town councillors last night unanimously backed a motion to ensure that all public playgrounds to be developed in Castlebar in the future will include inclusive play areas to ensure that children with disabilities can enjoy the facilities.
In addition the popular playground at Lough Lannagh in Castlebar is to be inspected and enhancement works that would offer children with disabilities access are to be carried out.
A Castlebar resident, Veronica Neely has campaigned for these changes and last month her campaign to have a hydrotherapy pool included in the 12.5 million new swimming pool and leisure centre at Lough Lannagh also secured unanimous backing from councillors.
Veronica was at last night’s meeting of the authority and told Midwest news today that she’s delighted with the developments.
