The Junior Tourism Minister Michael Ring has defended The Gathering 2013, after comments made yesterday by Irish-born actor and former cultural ambassador Gabriel Byrne, who branded it a scam.
The year-long tourism initiative will see events being held in all corners of the country, bringing tourists into Ireland.
In an interview on Today FM yesterday, the US-based actor said those with Irish heritage aren't receptive to being 'shaken down' for money.
However, speaking to Midwest News from London today Tourism Minister Michael Ring defended The Gathering, and said he’s disappointed Gabriel Byrne did not wear the Green Jersey on this occasion…..
