The Food Store took home the coveted National Retail Store of the Year award at this year’s Retail Excellence Ireland Awards, in partnership with Barclaycard.
The well-known Claremorris store employs 38 people in total.
The Awards were presented last night (3rd November) by President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins at a gala event at the Radisson Hotel in Galway.
The event, which was hosted by Karen Koster and Anton Savage, was attended by more than 500 representatives of the retail industry in Ireland.
President Higgins said that the award ceremonies gave him great faith in the ability of the country to rise above its ‘current adversities and create new realities’.
The President highlighted the importance of the retail sector saying it played a huge part of the national economy, not least in the very valuable number of jobs provides in every townland and community in the country. In addition to the national retail store of the year award for the Food Store in Claremorris, another prestigious title went west with Liam Coady, of Nestor’s SuperValu Oranmore being named Manager of the Year.
