Castlebar Cllr challenges colleague over ward closure claims

A Fine Gael member of Castlebar Town Council has thrown down a challenge to a fellow councillor over the issue of ward closures at Mayo General Hospital.
Earlier this week Independent Cllr Michael Kilcoyne told Midwest Radio that anorthapedic ward at the hospital had been closed in an effort to save money.
Today, however, Cllr Ger Deere has challenged Cllr Kilcoyne to visit Mayo General with him and show him the closed ward.
Cllr Deere said that while four beds in the unit were closed, the unit itself was still open. He said hospital management had confirmed to him that were not ward closures currently at Mayo General.
