Money taken in "distraction theft" at Ballyhaunis pharmacy

Gardai are investigating a robbery which took place at a pharmacy in Ballyhaunis yesterday evening.

Curley’s Chemist on Main Street was still open, when three foreign nationals entered the premises at about 6.15 yesterday evening – two men and a woman.

One of the group distracted the staff, while the other two went behind the counter and emptied the cash till.

They made their getaway in a silver-coloured Ford Galaxy, in the direction of Castlerea.

Gardai are checking CCTV footage in an effort to identify those responsible, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Garda station in Ballyhaunis or Swinford.

A Garda spokesman has also appealed to business owners not to leave large amounts of cash in their till, but to empty it regularly during the day.
