Funeral takes place in Roscommon today of Brother Paul Hurley of the Divine Word Missionaries

The funeral will take place in Roscommon today of the late Brother Paul Hurley  - former editor of The Word – the magazine of the Divine Word Missionaries.

Brother Hurley died on Friday at the age of 91.

A native of Dublin, he entered the Divine Word Missionaries in Donamon, Co Roscommon in 1948.

He founded and edited the monthly magazine The Word for forty years –at its height, the circulation was around 250,000 copies worldwide, with special editions for Britain and Australia.

For most of his life, Brother Hurley was an active member of the St Vincent de Paul society in Roscommon.

His funeral Mass takes place in Donamon Castle at 12 noon today, followed by burial in the cemetery of the Divine Word Missionaries.
