Roscommon fire victims named locally

Gardai investigating the death of three men in a fire in Roscommon have confirmed that post mortem examinations have been completed and say that smoke inhalation was the cause of death.

The men have been named locally as John Kerr, Ian Finn and Micheal Beirne.

Mr Kerr was in his mid-20s, while Mr Finn and Mr Beirne were both in their 40s.

It’s understood that at least one of the men was from outside of the Roscommon area.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the fire at a vacant house at St Ciaran’s Park in Roscommon Town at around 7.30 yesterday (Friday) morning.

The bodies of the men were discovered in a front room and, according to Gardai, there was slight evidence of fire damage throughout the house.

Superintendent Tom O’Connor said that while the house was a vacant property, it had become a ‘transient sort of place,’ where some local men stayed from time to time.

The house remains sealed off for ongoing forensic examination.
