Deputy Feighin says he's Delighted that 425 Turfcutters in County Roscommon have Received First Compensation Installment

Despite some turfcutters defying the law and continuing to cut turf on raised bogs, Roscommon Fine Gael deputy Frank Feighin says he’s delighted that so many turfcutters in county Roscommon accepted the compensation package that was on offer and have ceased cutting turf and have received their first index linked 1500 euro annual payment. The payments will continue for 15 years.

The deputy says 425 turfcutters in Roscommon have received this first payment.

However, the country is still facing large daily fines by the EU for failing to abide by the EU directive that prohibits the cutting of turf on raised bogs.
