The Courts Service has confirmed that decisions will be made within weeks in relation to the future of four courthouses in Mayo.
The four courthouses – in Ballyhaunis, Swinford, Achill and Westport – have been identified for closure by the Courts Service, following a nationwide review of court venues.
It will be a matter for the Board of the Courts Service to decide if any, or all, of these four courthouses will close.
A spokesman for the Courts Services told Midwest News today that a consultation process is currently underway in each case, involving local judiciary, solicitors, Gardai, the Probation Service and Courts staff, and a decision is expected to be made in the coming weeks in relation to future court sittings in Achill, Westport, Swinford and Ballyhaunis.
