INMO concerned about staffing levels at Sligo General Hospital

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation says that it is concerned about the severe staffing shortages at Sligo General Hospital as a result of the non-replacement of staff on maternity and sick leave.

In a statement today the INMO says that medical wards are particulary affected by the current situation, resulting in increased risk to patients and staff alike. Notwithstanding this increase risk, the INMO also understands management propose to open empty beds in some wards.

The INMO has demanded clarity and certainty as to how any additional beds will be staffed to ensure safe care for patients and safe practice for nurses. This is necessary as nursing staff are already struggling to provide basic care to patients and have grave concerns regarding patient safety concerns which are currently being ignored by management.
