Roscommon Senator contacts Government Ministers over job losses at Target Express

Roscommon Labour Senator John Kelly has contacted three Government Ministers this morning to find out what action they’re planning to take to save up to 400 jobs at Target Express.

The courier company, which employs some 12 people at a depot in Ballaghadereen, announced last evening that they’re ceasing trading.

Owner Seamus McBrien claims Revenue Commissioners rejected a plan by the company to pay off its debts.

Ballaghadereeen-based Senator John Kelly is questioning how Revenue carries out its business, and claims if the 400 employees of Target Express go on the dole, it will cost the State €8 million annually.

He has contacted Ministers Michael Noonan, Richard Bruton and Leo Varadker in relation to this matter, and is also calling for the Government to make a fuel rebate gesture towards the haulage industry, in light of the ever-increasing price of fuel.
