Westport native killed in Nigeria

A Westport native has been shot dead in Nigeria. 45-year-old Robert Gray was an engineer in southeastern Nigeria and died after he was ambushed near the Cameroon border on Thursday afternoon.
Mr Gray was working for Irish engineering company PW Group when the shooting occurred between 2-3pm on Thursday.
Mr Gray is from a well-known Westport family and travelled home regularly according to reports today.
He was a married man with twin daughters.
It’s understood that his body will be repatriated next week for burial.
The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed yesterday evening that they are providing consular assistance to the family.
