Coastguard co-ordinates rescue of two women in Mayo and Sligo
- Details
The Malin Head Coast Guard co-ordinated the rescue of two women yesterday.
The first incident involved a woman who became trapped by dense fog on Croagh Patrick. A helicopter was dispatched from Sligo and Mayo Mountain Rescue assisted in the rescue.
Later yesterday a woman became trapped at sea by the tide as she was walking across rocks off the shore near Mullaghmore in Co Sligo.
The holiday-maker was walking along the coastline when she realised the tide was coming in, and the amount of seaweed along the route made it impossible to turn back.
She had her mobile phone with her, and rang the emergency services.
The voluntary Bundoran Lifeboat crew was tasked, and were on the scene 12 minutes later where they assisted the woman off the rocks and onto the lifeboat.
She was taken back to the lifeboat station and did not suffer any injuries.
The lifeboat crew are urging people who are on the water or walking on the coastline to always carry a mobile phone, so the alarm can be raised in the event of an emergency.
