Campaign underway to restore Quiet Man cottage near Maam Cross

A campaign to restore the thatched cottage made famous in the `1951 film “The Quiet Man” is progressing, with moves underway to restore the cottage and develop a museum or cultural centre by 2015.
The cottage is located near Maam Cross, and was the main location for the film, which starred John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara.
The thatched cottage has fallen into disrepair, but talks are now ongoing with the owner, who’s based in California, about restoring the cottage and developing it as a visitor attraction.
