Man's body recovered from the sea off Clare Island

A man’s body was recovered from the sea off Clare Island yesterday evening.
The alarm was raised at about 6.30pm, when a local man who had gone out in his currach yesterday morning failed to return home.
Malin Head Coastguard co-ordinated the search operation, and the Coastguard Helicopter from Sligo was tasked to assist.
The Achill Lifeboat and Achill Coastguard boat were also involved in the search.
The crew of a local fishing boat discovered some debris yesterday evening, and at about 7.35pm the Achill lifeboat recovered the body of the 67-year old man.
His body was taken ashore at Roonagh Pier and removed to Mayo General Hospital for post-mortem examination.
