Michael Commins
Michael Commins has been hosting shows on Midwest Radio for over 20 years. Born and raised in the parish of Claremorris and close to Kiltimagh and Knock, he served for a few years with the Bank of Ireland in the Midlands before returning to his native Mayo.
He has worked as a reporter with a number of the regional newspapers in Mayo and is currently a staff member with The Mayo News where he covers news, politics, sports and the social scene.
Country music has always been close to his heart and it is this music that features most prominently in his two weekly shows on Wednesday and Sunday nights for the past two decades. He has also written a number of songs which have been recorded by such well known names as Big Tom, Margo O'Donnell, Brendan Shine, Mick Flavin, Frank McCaffrey, Susan McCann, Larry Cunningham, Kevin Prendergast and others.
The arrival of the internet has opened up new avenues with listeners now tuning in from various parts of Ireland as well as in the UK, USA and around the world, adding a new dimension to the outreach of the shows.
Since the outset, he has stuck to late night radio and has a great belief in the special affinity that exists between presenters and listeners on the late night shows. It's where he is most at ease and very much at home.
You can listen to Michael every Wednesday night from 11pm to 2am and every Sunday night from 10pm to 1am.
