Connacht well represented in All-Ireland Poc Fada Championships
The All-Ireland Poc Fada Championships takes place today (Saturday 31st July) in the Cooley Mountains in County Louth, with Mayo being represented this year for the first time in over a decade by Donall O'Brien (Ballyhaunis). The Silvermines native who now hurls with Ballyhaunis and Mayo, is a former Tipperary Senior Poc Fada champion, and goes into the event hoping to perform well in the twelve strong field. The competition begins at 12noon on the grueling 5km course in Annaverna near Ravensdale in County Louth.
Other Connacht representatives on view will be Roscommons reigning All-Ireland Champion Gerry Fallon from Oran, while current Connacht Champion James Skehill (Cappataggle) will also be expected to do well in the field. Stephanie Gannon (Athenry) goes to post in the Camogie competition while Owen Tracey (Portumna) will represent Connacht in the U16 event.
